More Snow

Hi Everyone,

Well, we were hit with another good storm yesterday, but the sun is shining today. Again, I drove to Belfast, but this time we closed at noon, so I got to drive home again in the middle of the storm. Let's just say that I was glad to get home after a long slow drive. The above picture is of another snowy day. If it was taken the same day as the one below, it must have been around 1956 or 7. This one is of Rob and Wayne in front of the garage. I bet Uncle Frank could identify the car.

So I got my application in the mail for the job I told you about. The deadline was March 1, so I haven't heard anything yet. The job title is District Consultant for the Northeastern Maine Library District, and though it is a state library position, the office is in Bangor Public Library. There would be lots of in-state travel involved, but not every day like now. I feel like I am in a good spot, because I would love the new adventure and think I would do a good job, but I am still very happy in my current job and feel like I still have lots to accomplish there. We'll see.

I heard from Franny this week and she was having trouble posting. I hope I was able to give her some help, and she will get something added soon. While we were hibernating yesterday afternoon, we watched an old episode of Frazier. In it, they flashed back to when Frazier first came back to Seattle and how difficult it was to reconnect with his father and brother after being away and not putting much effort into the relationship for many years. 3 years later he was realizing how great it was that they were close again and was encouraging Daphne to spend time with her family as well. I think that is one of the reasons I started this blog. With our busy life and the travelling I do each day to get to work, it would be easy to lose contact with all of you completely, and in fact I have done that at times. Without my mother here to bind us, I've even gone months without speaking to my brothers and I almost never take the time to stop in to visit with the uncles and aunts. I do visit Aunt Jeannette occasionally, but not as often as I should. I get lonesome for the family I grew up with, sometimes, and I don't want it to just slip away. So thanks for helping me feel connected and I promise not to get this sappy too often :-)

Well, maybe one more sappy thing for today. This would be my father's 86th birthday and I hope you won't mind me sharing this somewhat blurry photo of my folks.

That's it for now. Betsy.

The photos are great !
I really like the blog. I've always felt a bit left out. You can't imagine how much visiting Maine has always meant to me. I really enjoy the old photos and recently I' ve been going through many of my own. I even bought a couple of new albums to organize them. Your Aunt Doris has been giving lots of photos and things that belonged to my dad and even some that belonged to my mom.
Good luck, I hope you get the job you're applying for. It sounds very interesting.
Oh, by the way. we got three inches of snow today but it's supposed to be in the 60's by the weekend. Spring hath sprung!

Hey Dana,
I'm glad you are enjoying all this old stuff. If you get any of your pictures scanned and would like to share them, send them to my e-mail and I will add them to a post. I can't say that I remember your mother too clearly, except that I have always had a warm feeling about her and know she loved me. I do remember being at your house one summer and laying down to take a nap - something I didn't want to do, I guess, and she laid down with me until I fell asleep. It's just a snippit of a memory, but a good one. She was very kind and loving. Hey did you know that your Uncle Bucky and my mother-in-law are engaged? They are very cute together and enjoy each others company. He takes her to events at the Univ. and other big donor things and she watches the Red Sox with him. I don't know if they will ever actually get married, but we'll see. I'd better get back to the grind. I'll get another post up soon.

I'm sure no one will get this far back, again, but I still want to say that I think Grammy (mine, Fran) looks a lot like my mom in that picture.
